Perspective from the Grass

the dirt beneath green blades
reaches out to catch me,
cradling me as mother's arms;
slowing the rhythm of a racing
heart - trying to make it
in a world gone mad.

the blades tickle my neck
cooling my rages,
providing a sweet pillow
as I gaze up at a soft,
blue sky full of fat silver clouds
moving at their ease across my vision.

in this moment I am close to her;
she reminds me I am small,
stripping me of my cares
for I will come back to her soon.

The Best Things

If I listed all the best things,
you would be at the top.
If I recounted the joy life brings,
you are the start and the stop.
When the song in my heart would burst,
you are the probable cause.
When I am asked who comes first,
you are the answer, without pause.
When asked what has power over me,
you are the only answer I see;
your gracious love has set me free -
you demand I be the best I can be.
And now what do I do for you?
Just ask and I'll make it true.
