Change

what I don't know
dwarves what I do,
of this, I'm certain;

am I able
to apply this understanding
in a polarizing world,

to listen and to learn,
without the prejudice
of assumptions,

can I forget my certainties
and open myself up
to all I don't know,

it is the most difficult question
of this life:
can I change

Snowfall

white flakes
drifting
through the yellow glow
of a solitary streetlight,
all is calm;

this peaceful scene
draws the eye,
time falls away
as the mind
is left free
to dance
where it may

all feels pure
the world takes a breath,
it connects
with nature

Real

what we are seeking
is firmer ground
from which to face -
and find peace -
in the world

we aren't running away -
we move
from space to space
searching for ourselves,
for understanding,

so that we might
face the world
with heart and eyes open,
clear of mind,
free from preconceived ideas,
filled with the courage
of purpose

we are searching
for ourselves,
for who we would
really be
in this life
