the impenetrable darkness
before the dawn
is a reminder
to keep going;
the blackness is complete,
yet the light still comes,
first in small hints
upon the horizon
then bold pinks
and fiery oranges
explode across the sky
driving out the night;
the sun always rises,
so too shall we
