Salt Water

laying down in the ocean
thinking on the saying,
"salt water heals all wounds,"
gentle wave upon gentle wave
covers my body,
I ache with the numbing cold,
my pain still throbs;
I bleed,
the salt can't reach
this broken heart

why do we find it
so difficult to love -
to cast judgement aside
and embrace those closest to us -
to accept,
to feel empathy
and not try to change
those we should hold dear -
free from doubt or fear -

why is it a sign of weakness
to put the words out there,
worried at what outsiders
might think,
why do we care;

we get what we give,
why can't we get comfortable
giving out love

Four Letters

four letters
to form a word,
all different,
all equal -
though small -
missing even one
destroys the power
of the word;

four letters
can change the world,
can fill us up,
can break us apart,
can bring us together,
can keep us moving on,

four letters
essential to this life -
the root of existence -

four letters,
you must feel;

you must give to the world;

nothing apart,
everything together;
