where are the roots
holding us to our values
as life's winds whip
and its rains erode
the soil around us;
did we plant our seeds
deep enough,
so we became one
with the Earth,
tethering our well-being
to its care;
too few found the right depth,
we have shallow roots,
whose precarious hold
threatens to give
in the coming storms

Sins Revealed
the rain came sideways in steady gray sheets, riding the furious gusts that tore at the windows and tossed about all that wasn't weighted down; the light show upon the black canvas flashed a dangerous disco, preceding the vicious cracks of thunder that fragmented the night, further darkening the sky; too many saw it as a cool storm, a hard rain, another day, to the those willing to open eyes, it was another sign of our deepening sin
