Sins Revealed

the rain came sideways
in steady gray sheets,
riding the furious gusts
that tore at the windows
and tossed about
all that wasn't weighted down;

the light show upon the black canvas
flashed a dangerous disco,
preceding the vicious cracks of thunder
that fragmented the night,
further darkening the sky;

too many saw it as a cool storm,
a hard rain,
another day,
to the those willing to open eyes,
it was another sign
of our deepening sin

High Winds

the wind howls without
haunting the days
as it did the darkest nights of lore;
trees bend to its whims,
the house creaks its dismay -
it has never been tested like this before -
while inside we are warm,

but for how long;
when will the storm without
begin to rage within;
in our depths we know:
we've caused this -
we have changed the world;
what happens when the guilt
can no longer be held within
